Back To The Future
I had learned early on that digital printing was faster, more reliable, and a better option than traditional offset printing. That is why I had closed our offset department way back in 2002 and went completely digital. It was well before everyone started talking about Sustainability and going green, but still I knew I no longer wanted to inventory or use press chemicals in our shop or have to discard them in huge metal drums. So an easy decision yes, but not an easy process because we were, at the time, part of a franchise that required each location have an offset department. I had to file for compliance exemption and make a case on how going completely digital was a benefit to my company and our clients. We were eventually approved and had proudly become one of the first, if not the first, completely digital center in the franchise.
The Future Is Now
Today our digital presses offer brilliant color, exceptional quality and extremely quick turnaround times giving us the ability to get your projects completed quicker while looking better than ever. Now with sheet sizes up to 13″ x 27″ and 5th color options including spot gloss and white, we can cover a larger variety of print materials and add some pop and pizazz to each piece.
You Can’t Touch This
One thing digital printing always had over traditional offset was Variable Data Printing.
What is Variable Data Printing?
Well I’m glad that you asked. Variable Data Printing, also known as Variable Information Printing, is when elements of the print such as the text or graphics changed from one printed piece to the next by using information from a database and combining it with the static original or master. Very common in letters that are addressed to individuals. The body of the letter may be a common, but the first piece may say “Dear Jane” and the next “Dear John”. These elements are pulled from a database and married to the master making each print different. This is not possible on a traditional offset press since they work with plates that transfer ink to paper and those plates do not change.
