As a digital print and communications company, we deal with color everyday. What better than a rainbow to represent that?

Just The Facts

We will start by reviewing their basic definitions. Design is pretty straight forward so let us answer that one first.

What is the definition of design? A design is a plan or specification for the construction of an object or system or for the implementation of an activity or process, or the result of that plan or specification in the form of a prototype, product or process. The verb to design expresses the process of developing a design. – Wikipedia

If you are like me then that was a little too scientific. Basically a design is taking a thought or idea and making it visual. The right design takes some creativity and planning. The message must be communicated properly in order to achieve a desired result.

Marketing can be a little complex when it comes to strategy and delivery, but the definition is pretty simple.

What is Marketing? Marketing refers to activities a company undertakes to promote the buying or selling of a product or service.

Wikipedia goes a little further by adding: “Marketing is the business process of creating relationships with and satisfying customers. With its focus on the customer, marketing is one of the premier components of business management”.

Some Basics

The use of color can be the most important element in a business advertising campaign. There are a number of books, blogs and websites written on the topic of Color Psychology in Marketing that help define simple color associations (i.e. Green = health, Purple = royalty) and also explain the science behind how color influences our behavior and decision-making. Your color choice when branding and marketing your business can influence consumer feelings about your products or services and can play just as large a role in generating customers.

Beyond Color

A great design isn’t just about color and layout; it is about capturing someone’s attention and getting a reaction. Quality design will persuade potential customers to see things from your perspective. There are moments when you only have a few seconds to convey your message … is your business making the right impression?

When potential customers visit your website or open your brochure, are you telling the story you initially intended? Effective designs are a critical component in most successful marketing campaigns. Customers are much more likely to make a purchase from a company they trust. Be that company. 🙂

Responsive design is a graphic user interface design approach used to create content that adjusts smoothly to various screen sizes.
